Actually, while following some of the SEO guidelines is one way to ensure that your site is indexed quickly and easily by the search engine crawlers; it is in no sense a guarantee that your site will make it to the top ranks. Unfortunately the search engine Gods simply don’t want to make life that easy for you.

Then there are also the SEO mistakes that can cost you site dearly; these can particularly pull down your Google rank; which has assumed the role of the hall monitor just waiting to pounce on any hapless website that has a web master who according to Google is misbehaving. So things like keyword spanning and using content that is little more than a barrage of keywords on your site, using link farms to get your links, launching a gambling site or pharmaceutical sites can get you blacklisted.

Then there is also another crucial question that comes into play here; how much SEO do you need to get your site into the good books of the major search engines? Will a few strategies do the trick or will you need to include everything out there to make a difference?

In its simplest format; the answer to this question will primarily depend on what you are trying to accomplish through your SEO efforts. For instance, if you are operating an online venture in a highly competitive niche or business environment; then SEO should rank first in your list of must do things because that how you can go about annihilating those pesky competitors. This is not to say; that ordinary web masters and website owners should ignore SEO entirely; au contraire, you will need some amount of SEO to get good traffic to your site that will eventually convert into subscribers and buyers.

There is certainly no dearth of SEO companies that are making a pretty penny at the expense of webmasters and companies that feel the need to spend thousands of dollar every month to get their site and keyword on top. As a matter of fact, if your business centers around affiliate marketing, you can be sure that even a small drop in your rankings will have a direct impact on your earnings; the lower the ranking; the lower the earning it is really as simple as that Sometime; it is noticed that even a miniscule drop in the SERP’s on the first page with make a big difference to how much you finally end up earning.

However, one of the most important factors that you need to remember as far as SEO is concerned is the number of quality links that your site has and the type of content that you have put on the site. There will always be some keyword battles that you will win and then there will be others that you will lose but your links will serve you for long.

There are those webmasters and web site owners who spend a lot of time and money in to building the perfect site, so their page layout flows the precise specifications that the SEO masters feel are important. This in it self isn’t a bad idea; it is good practice to ensure that your title, headlines, URL and keyword density are all just right; and then these are things that we can control. Then there are other factors that are simply beyond our ability or capacity to influence; for instance; the anchor index that the link sites use for your site or what they have to say about your site in general will also make a difference but frankly there isn’t’ a damn thing that you can do about it.
